Council boss calls for accountability of public funds
The chairman of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Abdul Fatai Ayodele Oyesanya, has urged all stakeholders involved in the process of acquiring goods, works and consultancy services, using public fund to ensure they follow all the laws guiding the Public Procurement Act in order to get value for money spent in the provision of services for citizens.
The council boss gave the charge on Wednesday at the council secretariat while inaugurating the Year 2018 Procurement Planning Committee of the council.
Oyesanya in his keynote address, advised members of the committee, all Heads of Departments and Units, as well as contractors, suppliers and consultants to follow due process while using public fund to acquire goods and provide services for the benefit of the people.
He particularly emphasized the need for all stakeholders to get themselves used to the Procurement Law, as it serves as requirement for procurement of goods and services, using public fund.
He added that the era of wasting public fund is gone, considering the prevailing economic situation in the country, and the fact that the social needs of the people are many, but the resources to provide them are very scarce.
Speaking earlier, an Assistant Chief Procurement Officer from the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mrs. Issa Titilayo submitted that the the major reason for enacting the Public Procurement Act is to control and regulate prices of goods and services when using public fund to acquire them.
Members of the committee inaugurated are: Head of Administration in the council, Mrs Omoloju Comfort, Procurement Officer, Mr Bankole Hakeem, Council Treasurer, Mrs Saula Ganiat, Head of Budget and Planning Department, Mr Salami Ibrahim, and Council Engineer, Kashomo Florence.
