Youths should be allowed to take up political offices, says Boys Brigade
Lagos State Council of the Boys Brigade of Nigeria, yesterday, said that youths must be allowed to take up political offices by political parties, just as old politicians must yield the floor for young people.
The Council said it is important that Nigeria adopts United Kingdom’s method where young minds are groomed for political offices, as this will not only ensure that they are prepared for office but also understand the tenets of leadership.
The council also lamented the high level of youth unemployment in the country, saying the nation’s economy is not creating enough jobs to gainfully employ the exploding youthful population.
The seventh president of the council, Olusegun Paul Ladega who stated this at press conference in Lagos noted that the swell in the numbers of socially excluded young persons who are not in Education, Employment or Training is a keg of gun powder and a source of potential social upheaval.
He said the brigade learning process which combines the inculcation of Christian Values and Life skills is a veritable human resource development institution which government at all levels should consider partnering with in order to give children in the country a more rounded education that will enable them attain their full potential.
