Chelsea set to give Liverpool 'blues style'
The meeting of Liverpool and Chelsea will be the key fixture in this weekend’s round of Premier League action, with the Blues looking to put a spanner into the works of the Reds’ title bid. DStv will bring the action from England’s top flight.
Liverpool went back to the top of the table – taking full advantage of Manchester City’s participation in the FA Cup last weekend – with a 3-1 win away to Southampton in which Mohamed Salah finally broke his scoring drought.
However, Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea – who are amid huge battle to finish in the top four and qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League – will offer a much sterner challenge to Jurgen Klopp’s men when the teams meet at Anfield on Sunday.
In addition, Liverpool will be playing after Manchester City, who can reclaim top spot and put the pressure on their championship rivals if they win away to Crystal Palace. Pep Guardiola’s men continued their push for an unprecedented quadruple by securing a place in the FA Cup final.
This match against the Eagles will come in the middle of clashes against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League quarterfinals, and Guardiola may opt to rest key men against a club, which is no longer under any real threat of relegation and may therefore have less motivation to stymie the champions’ ambitions.
Another key battle comes from Old Trafford, where Manchester United must defeat West Ham United to keep up with the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea in the race for top four berths.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have struggled to recapture the momentum they built up early in the Norwegian’s tenure but a strong showing against the Hammers could set them up for a rousing finish to the campaign.
Spurs have what looks an easy match at home to already-relegated Huddersfield, while Arsenal (who need to bounce back from their defeat at Everton on Sunday) have a much tougher look match away to Watford, who will be riding high after their dramatic triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup semi-final, to wrap up the round on Monday 15 April.
